It
was really enjoyable to get together again on 9th April, especially
as we had to cancel our mid-March café because of the snow – the first time
that has happened in four years! However, we made up for this today with
arrangements of colourful spring flowers on the tables.
Our
friends were greeted by a display based around weddings, including a selection
of wedding invitations, photographs, lucky horseshoes and a variety of the
little compliments cards which were placed inside cake boxes! There was a board
on ‘Famous weddings of the 1950s’ and a ‘Wedding Memories’ word-search, and the
reason for this theme became clear when our regular visitors, Colin and Monica,
were greeted by a rendition of the Wedding March and were congratulated on
their 65th wedding anniversary which was to take place later in the
week.
Entertainment
for the afternoon was provided by ‘Just Jeff’ who delighted everyone with
medleys of familiar songs, interspersed with interesting facts and small
quizzes to keep us on our toes.
As tea time
approached Colin told the story of how he met Monica, the ‘last girl in
England’ (she was born a mile from Lands End!) and the couple then cut a
specially baked two-tiered cake and were presented with a card, flowers and a small
gift from all their friends at the café. At this point Jeff took a rest whilst we
all tucked into tea and cakes.
There
was an opportunity to have a look at the Sparkle magazine that had been
distributed, and to have a closer look at the display of books and wedding
paraphernalia. Jeff continued to entertain us for the remainder of the
afternoon concluding his programme with a solo on the clarinet.
We look
forward to meeting up again from 2pm – 4pm on Monday 7th May and Monday
21st May at Crantock Village Hall. New members, who have a degree of
memory loss, are always welcome to come along with their carers, and should you
require more information please contact Di on 01637 830544 or Joan on 01637 831347.
